My artistic journey with glass commenced during my final semester at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and from that moment, I discovered an enduring love for this captivating material. My initial encounter with glassblowing felt like a dance, as I learned to harmonize my movements with the fluidity of molten glass. This connection marked the beginning of a lifelong exploration and a profound understanding of the medium. Glassblowing, to me, is an ongoing voyage of discovery; the longer I work with this medium, the more attuned I become, almost predicting its every move.
In my early years, I had the privilege of studying under the guidance of several Maestros, hailing from diverse corners of the globe, including Italy, Czech Republic, and Australia. These talented artists graciously shared with me their time-honored techniques, passed down through centuries. These invaluable lessons became the foundation upon which I built my unique artistic voice. Drawing inspiration from the past, I now reinterpret these techniques in my own distinct manner.
Throughout my artistic journey, a relentless passion for color has been a driving force. The hot glass studio offers me a vast palette, and I continuously explore the boundless possibilities of color application. It is a realm where my imagination knows no bounds, and each piece is a testament to my unwavering dedication to capturing the vibrancy and depth of hues in the translucent medium.
In the creation of my work, I cannot solely claim the credit. I work in close collaboration with a dedicated assistant, whose role is pivotal in the realization of my artistic vision. Together, we navigate the intricate choreography of glassblowing, communicating seamlessly as we shape the molten material into its final form. Glassblowing, at its core, is a profoundly teamwork-oriented art form, where the fusion of artist and assistant is integral to the creative process. This collaboration not only challenges me intellectually but also pushes me physically, as glass is a formidable and ever-moving medium.
In essence, my journey as a glass artist is a continuous evolution, a celebration of tradition intertwined with innovation, and a testament to the enduring artistry of molten glass. Through the dance of heat, color, and teamwork, I strive to craft pieces that resonate with both the past and the present, inviting viewers into a world where the ancient and the contemporary coexist in harmony.

Michelle offers glass blowing workshops, and glass camps at her studio in Shreveport High Gravity Glassworks.
